FORTUNE TELLING CARDS
How To Tell Fortunes:—
The person telling- the fortune is called The Fortune Teller The Fortune Teller hands the cards to the person who wishes his fortune told and requests him to shuffle the cards, cut them if he wishes, and hand them back.
The Fortune Teller then lays out six cards in a row face up saying "these are your past." The Fortune Teller then places six cards face down on top of each other in front of him (these are a discard.) The Fortune Teller then places six more cards face up in a row next to the first six, saying "these are your wish." The Fortune Teller then discards six more and proceeds to lay out six more next to the other two rows, saying "these are your future." The last six cards are also a discard.
The cards are now all distributed and the Fortune Teller being familiar with the symbols begins to tell the fortune beginning with the six cards which represent the past; then on with the next six cards representing the wish; and the last six cards representing the future.
The Fortune Teller can then say, "I have told your fortune according to your Past, Wish and Future, but I can see where these three have a great bearing on each other" and the Fortune Teller then proceeds to tell the future from the total eighteen cards.
Any person becoming' familiar with the cards and symbols can create heaps of interest and fun by telling fortunes.
Another entertaining way to tell fortunes of a number of people at one time, is to have them all gather around a table and the person selected as the Fortune Teller hands the cards to the person on the left who will shuffle the cards and pass to the next person who repeats the shuffling- and passing until the Fortune Teller receives the cards again. The Fortune Teller then deals each person a card face down, beginning with the person on his left, until the cards are all dealt. The Fortune Teller then asks the person on the left to turn the cards face up in a row. The Fortune Teller then tells the future and proceeds with the next person. This is intensely interesting and causes hilarious laughter and fun.
DIRECTIONS FOR PLAYING THE GAME OF STARS
Two, three or four persons can play. Shuffle the cards and cut for deal. The cards rank in the order indicated by the number in the corner, 1 being low. High deals, if there is a tie, those tying cut again. The cards are dealt one at a time until each player has eight cards. The object of the game is to avoid taking tricks which contain cards of the unlucky suite or Stars. There are four suites, Squares, Circles, Diamonds and Stars. The highest numbered card of suite played wins the trick. Players must follow suite. If they cannot follow suite they may discard any card they choose, but they must follow suite when able. For failure to follow suite when able, a player is penalized three points. After each hand every player counts the number of unlucky cards (stars) he has had to take. Every Star card counts one against him and the winner of each hand wins one point for each Star card in his opponents' tricks. First player to get 25 points wins the game.
The unlucky Stars are:
1. Pride
2. Danger
3. Malice
4. Gossip
5. Calamity
6. Envy and Jealousy
7. Sickness
8. Disappointment
9. Tears and Sorrow
