FILM FANTASY
by Pepys

FILM FANTASY”
CARD GAME

FOR 2 to 10 PLAYERS

(For 6 or more players 2 packs should be used)

The pack consists of 45 cards, each card depicting a scene, or a leading star or stars, from a modern film production. There are four cards each from 11 films with an extra card from "Ice Follies of 1939" this being the JOKER card. The sketches for these cards have been made from photographs taken during the production of the films and all cards are reproduced in full colours.

DEAL

The cards are given out face upwards and the player receiving the JOKER card becomes the first dealer.

Shuffle and deal one card at a time, face down, giving four cards in all to each player — commencing on left of dealer.

PLAY

Following the deal, and after looking at the cards dealt, each player passes one card to the nest player on his left— face down on the table. When all have done this an additional card is given out by the dealer to each player—face downwards. Players again examine their hands and once more pass one card to the left—face down—and receive another card each from the dealer. This continues until the stack is exhausted.

The object of the game is to collect two complete sets of four different cards from one film.

The first player to succeed in doing this calls "I declare" and lays his two sets on the table. Should the Joker be included with its correct set (Ice Follies) making nine cards in all in the Declaration, player scores 25 points. A simple declaration (2 sets of four cards only) scores 15 points.

AUCTION

Should no player be able to declare 8 or 9 cards after the final deal has been made, the dealer calls "Open Auction," and from the time the Auction is opened each player may offer, simultaneously, one, two, or three cards (but not more than three at one time) in exchange to any other player for an equal number.

Titles of films must not be called but just a clear call for one, two, or three cards as desired.

The Auction remains open until one player calls "I declare." No cards are allowed to pass at Auction once this declaration has been made. At that point all exchange of cards immediately ceases.

SCORING

All the other players then show their hands and score 5 points for every set of four different cards from one film that they are holding when the round ceases. A set of five (i.e., Ice Follies set complete with Joker) scores 10 points. Player holding the Joker when " I declare" is called is penalised by losing 5 points unless he also holds at least three additional different cards from that set (Ice Follies). If holding the Joker and three cards he scores 5 points as for an ordinary four card set.

The winner of the game is the player who first reaches a total of 50 points.

If only 2 players — delete 4 sets of four cards (not the Ice Follies set with the Joker) and deal as instructed.

If only 3 players — delete 3 sets of four cards (not the Ice Follies set with the Joker) and deal as instructed.

If 6 players (using two packs) delete 6 sets of four cards (not the Ice Follies sets with Joker).

Any odd cards over the deal, remain face down and unused on the table for that round, being shuffled into the pack before the next deal is made.

FOR PARTIES OR DRIVES

"Film Fantasy" makes an ideal game for parties or drives. For a "Film Fantasy" drive the declarer at each table moves up and player on declarer's left moves down. Players with the highest scores at the end of an agreed number of hands are the winners.
