THE GAME.
The game consists of making up a train by collecting the necessary five cards and moving it out of the station by the use of the signal cards.
PLAY.
Each player then takes a station, the station being either chosen or dealt out. This station" the player lays on the table in front of himself, and the cards he must collect to form his train must be of the same Company as his station.
Shuffle and deal the cards, giving each player eight cards. The top card when the deal is finished is placed face upwards beside the stack of undealt cards, which are placed face down in the centre of the table.
Play commences by the dealer picking up the exposed card or the top card of the pack. He then discards one card face upwards alongside the centre stack. The player on the dealer's left then plays and so on.
When it is your turn to play, you may at any stage of the game, after having picked up a card, .demand of any player a card which you require, provided you can give a Pass card from your own hand in exchange. If the player challenged does not hold the card demanded you must discard the Pass card instead of having a choice of discard. If at any stage of the game a card is discarded which you require, you may call out "Pass" and exchange it for a Pass card. The play then continues from the player on your LEFT. (Note this is only permitted in making up your train and cannot be used to pick up signals).
If a Pass card is discarded the next player may not pick it up but must take the top card of the pack.
If an exposed signal card is picked up that card cannot be discarded until the next round.
When the centre stack has been used, shuffle the exposed cards, and replace them face downwards, the top card being placed face upwards at the side.
As soon as a player has completed a train he lays it down on the table thus :
If a player should lay out a train with Pool units in it, any player who holds the correct card, may substitute it when it is his turn to play.
Play proceeds as before except that by discarding Green Signal cards the players move their trains forward to get out of the station. When a Red Signal card is discarded all trains SHUNT ONE MOVE BACKWARDS, except that of the discarder, but a train cannot be moved back beyond its starting position.
The train moves one card's length each time a GREEN Signal (1) is played, and two cards' length each time a GREEN Signal (2) is played.
The winner is the first player to move his Guard's Van right out of the station, so that it requires seven moves forward to bring it to the winning position.
