BOURSE
by Benco

THE RULES OF " BOURSE."
(Copyright).

A. The same of "BOURSE" consists of 56 cards made up as follows :—

8 each of the following " CAPITAL," cards :
LONDON

NEW YORK

MONTREAL

PARIS

BRUSSELS

BERLIN.

7 " RISE & FALL " cards.

1" SELLING " card.

B. It may be played by from 3 to 7 players The amount of cards used differs according to the number of players.

7 players use the full pack of 56 cards.

For 6 players leave out I of each " CAPITAL" cards and 1 " RISE & FALL " card.

For 5 players leave out 3 " BERLIN " cards and 2 each of the other "CAPITAL" cards and 2 " RISE & FALL " cards.

For 4 players leave out 4 each " BERLIN " and " BRUSSELS " cards and 3 of each of the other " CAPITAL " cards and 3 " RISE & FALL " cards.

For 3 players leave out 4 each " LONDON ""MONTREAL." "NEW YORK," and 5 each "BERLIN," "BRUSSELS," "PARIS" and 4 " RISE & FALL" cards.

NOTE.—The "SELLING" card is always included, and there is 1 " RISE & FALL " card for each player. The higher numbered " RISE & FALL " cards should always be included.

C. Each player sets out to make a profit at the "CLOSE OF THE MARKET" on whatever currency they hold of the principal countries shown here by their " CAPITALS."

D. All currency is at " Par." The value of the "CAPITAL," cards being controlled by the " RISE & FALL " cards in the hand. The " Rise" is equal to a gain for each card, the gain being shown by the number given on the card. Thus, " Rise" 7, Berlin, London, would make each Berlin and London card in the hand worth 7 points. The " Fail," is equivalent to a loss, and in the same way " Fall " 7, Berlin, London, would make each of these " Capital " cards in the hand lose 7 points.

E. DEALING. The dealer deals out all the cards, the " pack" being made up as in paragraph B. No player touches the cards until the dealer takes up his own hand. It is then essential to note what " CAPITALS " are on your " RISE & FALL " cards, and the object of the game is to rid the hand of all " Capital " cards shown as " Fall " replacing the same with " Capital " cards shown as " Rise." This is done by means of exchange.

F. EXCHANGE. The " Exchange," should be opened as rapidly as possible after the bands are taken up.The one quickest away usually proving to be the winner, or a very good second. This is done by each player calling out (irrespective of any turn), the number of cards (which must be of the same kind), they wish to exchange, thus having 3 " LONDON" to exchange the player would call out 1, 2, or 3, and would receive in exchange from any other player calling I, 2, or 3, cards, which also must be all of one kind.

G. " CLOSING THE MARKET." Any player can "CLOSE THE MARKET," and it depends on the state of the score as to whether this is done with a small profit in the hand or a larger profit. The player wishing to end the game should call " Close," at the same time placing his cards face upwards on the table. In the case of the player holding the " SELLING " card "CLOSING THE MARKET," this player will call out " SELL," and at the same time place his cards face upwards on the table. In either case all "EXCHANGE" automatically finishes. The score being taken of each hand commencing with the one who " CLOSES THE MARKET."

H. " SELLING " card. This card doubles the score of the holder whether plus or minus. If any player but the holder of the "SELLING" card "CLOSES THE MARKET" the holder of the "SELLING" card loses 10 points after doubling his score.

SPECIAL RULES.

1. Any of the cards whether " SELLING," " RISE & FALL," or " CAPITAL " cards may be exchanged. The " SELLING" card can only be exchanged singly. " RISE & FALL " cards can be exchanged one or more, but must not be mixed with " SELLING" or "CAPITAL" when exchanging. "CAPITAL" cards must be exchanged all of the same suit at the time of each individual exchange.

2. It may be that one player will have more than 1" RISE & FALL" card and unless the player is very quick to see whether it is to his advantage to retain these, it is advisable to exchange any " RISE & FALL " card which is detrimental to his profit.

3. Any one without a " RISE & FALL " card can either keep exchanging a card from his hand in the hope of obtaining this card, or (depending on the state of his score) can "sit tight," as, without a " RISE & FALL" card, the hand counts nothing, even though it contains the "SELLING "card.

4. A player having no "RISE & FALL” card cannot " CLOSE THE MARKET."

5. Immediately any player calls “SELL” or "CLOSE," all hands are placed face upwards on the table, and the score is taken in the following manner:—

Each “CAPITAL" card in the hand counts according to the " RISE & FALL " cards in the same hand, thus, if a player holds " Rise 10, New York and Montreal—Fall 10 London and Berlin." With 4 New York and 2 Montreal Capital cards in the hand, this would count plus 60. If the remaining card happens to be a London or Berlin, this would count 10 away, leaving a nett score of 50; but if the remaining card were the " SELLING " card, the score of 60 would be doubled, giving a nett gain of 120 points.

For a quick game the score is usually taken to 200. Should 2 or more at this point have a score of over 200, the one having the highest when all scores are totalled would be the winner.

REMEMBER.

1. Sort your cards rapidly.

2. Endeavour to be the first to exchange.

3. In exchanging make your voice heard.

4. Beware of holding two "RISE & FALL" cards unless you are very quick.

5. Remember the "SELLING" card CAN count 1 0 against you.

6. If your hand is a minus one and shows no sign of improvement you can cause havoc by passing your " RISE & FALL " card to some one who appears about to "CLOSE THE MARKET."

7. Don't worry at the start about exchanging " Capital " cards not on your " RISE & FALL" cards as these count nothing.
