FOR FOUR OR MORE PLAYERS DIRECTIONS
1.The player who gets the Tipster in a preliminary deal, becomes bookie. The others are punters. One pack is sufficient for 4 punters. If additional packs are used, cards other than Red and Blue are extracted.
2. Five cards are dealt face down to each punter. The remaining cards are called "The Field" and are slacked face down.
3. After each deal, each player deposits one counter in the pool. A punter may draw a card from the top of the field, discarding one to the bottom, and placing in the pool one counter for each such exchange.
4. A Red and Blue card in combination constitutes a horse, and a punter may back any horse he holds for win. place or each way, getting his price from the bookie, who will state the odds.
5.The number shown on a card indicates that the pack contains that number of such cards, and the combinations of such numbers is accordingly some guide to the appropriate odds.
6. A punter holding the Tipster may name and play it as any Red or Blue card he chooses, after having made his bargain with the bookie, or he may call " I've got a horse ", and sell it to the highest bidder If the Welsher is dealt to a punter, he cannot use or exchange it for any other card.
7. When all horses have been exposed on the table, with the stakes on top, the race proceeds by the turnover of cards from the top of the field. The first card if Red or Blue ) is combined with the first card of the opposite colour to appear, to name winner. The place horse follows similarly. Intermediate unwanted cards are ignored.
8. If the card after the First, Second or Third Horse is the Tipster Policeman or Welsher, any punter may call "objection", placing two counters in the pool.
9. If the next card is Red. the objection is upheld; if Blue it is over-ruled.
10. If the Welsher appears before the first horse is named, the bookie does not pay out, but takes all stakes, unless the Policeman appears before the first three are named. A punter holding the Policeman cannot be welshed.
11. A punter backing the first to win, and also the second or third for a place, takes the pool.
12. If the winner is not backed, the bookie takes the pool.
13. A punter holding the Policeman, becomes bookie after the pay out on that race.
14. The bookie may sell his business to the highest bidder at any time.
