Kenneth Grahame
A Scot, he was born in Edinburgh in 1859. To poor to attend University he got a job as a trainee clerk in the Bank of England , where he worked till 1908. He established himself as an author with the publication of his book "The Golden Age" in 1895. His wonderful book,"The Wind in the Willows" followed in 1908, published by Methuen. One of his most collected works is a volume entitled "Pagan Papers" which was published by John Lane in 1894 with a frontispieces by the celebrated artist Aubrey Beadle.
