F W Farrar
Born in India in 1831 he came to England and studied at Cambridge University where he became a fellow of Trinity College. He went on to teach at Harrow, became the Headmaster of Marlborough College, then the Cannon of Westminster and finished as the Dean of Canterbury. Although he wrote a number of books on education he is best remembered for the few children's books he wrote. The best known of which is "Eric", (A tale of Rosalyn School) which was first published in 1858 by A C Black and then reprinted in 1894 with illustrations by Gordon Browne.
