Randolph Caldecott

Born in Chester, England in 1846, he moved to London in 1872 when he went to study at the Slade School of Art. He became involved with the printer Edmund Evans through his work with the "London Society" magazine who helped him produce his series of popular picture books.

Although his one of these that was published in stiff sewn card covers, was "The House that Jack Built" , the third to be produced, "The Mad Dog" is the most sought after. The other most collectable volume is the "Complete Collection of Randolph Caldecott's Pictures & Songs" which contains all 16 of his picture books, with a preface by Austin Dobson and was published by Routledge in the UK & US in 1887. This printing was limited to 800 copies and was engraved, printed and signed by Edmund Evans.
