Raymond Briggs
He was born in Wimbledon in 1934 and studied locally at the Wimbledon School of art before going onto the Slade School of Fine Art. He started his career working for Advertising Agencies before creating his first published work, "Midnight Adventure" in 1961. He developed a distinctive style superficially based on the comic strip. His books featuring Father Christmas and his Snowman books are widely regarded as his best work.
