Enid Blyton

Her name is forever associated with the term Children's Book and must be regarded as one of the most prolific, if not the best writers of children stories of the last century. She was born in London in 1897 and grew up in Beckeham. She fufiled her childhood ambition of wanting to teach by eventually becoming a Kindergarten Teacher, all the while writing articles and stories for magazines.

She was even published in the "Teachers World". Although her first book was published in 1922, a little volume of poems called "Child Whispers", she struck the rich vein of her future success in 1924 with "The Enid Blyton Book of Fairies" which she followed with "Sunny Stories for Little Folk" two years later in 1926.

She is also well known for her "Famous Five" and "Secret Seven" Series and the magical "Noddy" books. She died in 1968 having written seemingly countless books, and having brought pleasure to countless children, aged 71.
