John Betjeman
He was born in London in 1906 and after studying at Oxford University he went on to become an Architectural Historian and well respected Poet. Among his numerous volumes of Poetry and pose he also found time to write two children's books. "A Ring of Bells" which was a new version of "Summoned By Bells" revised for children and illustrated by Edward Ardizzone. It comprised of those of his works that had been selected by Irene Slade and was published by John Murray in 1962. The other book was "Archie & the Strict Baptists " which was illustrated by Phillida Gili and brought out in 1977 by the same publisher. .
