Elisabeth Beresford
Famous creator of the "Wombles", she was born in Paris in 1926. Having served in the Royal Navy as a Wren during the Second World War she married the TV presenter Max Robertson in 1946 and went onto to write mainly for television. "The Wombles" book, illustrated by Margaret Gordon appeared in 1968 and was published by Benn. Her first book was "The Television Mystery" and was published by Parrish in 1957.
