J M Barrie
He was born in Kirriemuir, Scotland in 1860. After finishing his education in Edinburgh he went in search of work in England where he became a journalist for the "Nottingham Journal". In 1885, he moved from there to London where he tried his hand at freelance writing. He wrote two plays before his famous "Peter Pan", which hit the stage in 1904. It was based on a character in "The Little White Bird" that was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1902. The book "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens" followed in 1906. Illustrated by Arthur Rackham, it remains the most desirable edition, especially those that were limited to 500 and signed by the artist in the same year.
