R M Ballantyne

Born in Scotland, he was made an apprentice into the Hudson Bay Company by his father, when he was only sixteen to become a Fur Trader in Canada. He returned to Scotland seven years later, when he finished his apprenticeship and wrote an account of his adventures in the Canadian wilderness.

In 1856 he produced the first of his many adventure novels. All his works are collectible, especially those with highly decorative covers.
