The Rev W Awdry
As the author and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, he remained passionate about steam trains all his life, also writing several about railways for adults. He was born in Hampshire, England in 1911 and was educated at Oxford. He served as the Rector of Elsworth and then as the vicar of Elmneth in Norfolk. His earlier books, as expected are the most sought after. The first was "The Three Railway Engines", illustrated by C. Reginald Dalby and published by Ward in 1945.
