Mabel Lucie Attwell

 

Born in the East End of London in 1879 she met and fell in love with the illustrator Harold Cecil Earnshaw, who she married in 1908. He encourage her artistic ability and in 1921, Valetine published her "Bunty & the Boo Boos".

As well as been commissioned to illustrate such classics as "Alice in Wonderland" and "Peter Pan" she is best remembered for her own series of postcards, annuals and "midget books". She died in 1964 after a full life, at the age of 85.

Her book of "Children's Stories", published by Whitman Publishing Co. in 1930 remains one of her most treasured books.
